CMH Campaign with Largest Matchmakers Support Ever

Matchmakers are offering up to $400,000 in matching support to help fund a new CT Scanner for the Hospital

Trent Hills – Mon., Nov. 6, 2023- Martha Hunt, Chair of the Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) Foundation, has announced the launch of the 17th Annual Angels of Care Campaign that includes an incredible $400,000 matching gift incentive.

This year’s Angels of Care Campaign is fundraising for the purchase of a new CT Scanner for the Hospital.

The cost of the new CT Scanner is $1.4 Million and to date the Foundation has raised, with donations and pledges, over 40% of the goal.

To help the campaign a group of loyal donors, called The Matchmakers, is returning and contributing up to $400,000 to encourage other community members to support better health care close to home.

Launched in 2021, The Matchmakers include several individuals, businesses and an estate with many years of dedicated support of CMH. Hunt says, “The Matchmakers are thrilled to be back to encourage support of the Hospital. They hope others will feel the same and make a gift to the 17th Annual Angels of Care Campaign.”

In a letter being mailed to donors and former patients, Colleen Smith, Diagnostic Imaging Manager says, “When our current CT was installed in January 2010, we were the smallest hospital in Ontario to have this life-saving diagnostic tool. Since then, CTs have become a standard of care almost everywhere.”

Smith adds, “CT scans help our medical team make accurate diagnoses for cancers, heart disease, blood clots, tumors, joint and bone problems and much more.

By donating to the Angels of Care Campaign you can help CMH improve imaging capabilities, which will lead to earlier detection of life-threatening conditions and faster, more effective, treatment.”

“Each gift made to the Angels of Care Campaign from today until December 31st will be matched up to $400,000”, says Matchmakers spokesperson, Bruce Thompson, “Since being installed 13 years ago the CT Scanner has saved countless lives, with quicker diagnosis and treatment and not having to transport patients to other hospitals for testing.  We hope the community will be inspired once again to join The Matchmakers and help purchase a new CT Scanner.”

The Matchmakers include Bruce and Betsy Thompson, MacLaren Pharmacy, the Estate of Bill Scott and anonymous donors. “We can’t thank The Matchmakers enough for this year’s generous support”, says Hunt. “The new CT Scanner is vitally important to the Hospital and we know the matching gift program will once again be popular.”

More than 42,000 area residents are treated annually at CMH. This includes patients requiring a stay in the In-Patient Unit, a diagnostic test, have lab work done or a visit to the Emergency Department. If it wasn’t for financial support of the community many of these critical services and the required medical equipment would not be available.

The Provincial Government does not provide funds for the purchase of new equipment. That responsibility is in the hands of our generous donor community.
