A little outpost with free products

A Personal Care Box providing free items from toothbrushes to first aid products has been set up in the Roseneath parkette thanks to the efforts of the Roseneath United Church, says spokesperson Betty Wagner.
It is open 24/7 and contains seven categories of personal care items from laundry soap to hair products. All are non-perishable and won’t be hurt by freezing weather, she explained in an interview with the News Now Network.
There are food banks in Cobourg and Hastings, but in between in Northumberland County, except for the Alderville Community Centre which has set hours and is not open 24/7, there is no such assistance, she said.
People who would like to donate can do so through the Church which will be responsible for maintaining the box, and the surrounding area.
“I saw a very similar one in Port Hope,” Wagner said and noted that there are other care boxes around the County.
“We just thought this would fulfill a local need.”
Wagner said she wants to thank the municipality of Alnwick/Haldimand for its support in installing the Personal Care Box as well as to the church congregation that has taken on the project.
