Big money riding on results of the fake chicken showdown
Opinion by Ted Amsden
Who is going to win the top dollar prize for the best fake chicken?
Will contestants ask ChatGPT or DALL-E for help?
Could judges see artificial fowl from out of this world?
Organizers have specified 3D birds, so any AI digital images are ruled out.
But could AI be used to generate a working model for the crafter to follow?
A big question. Judges are going to have to be sharp-eyed this year for any AI influences.
Kathryn McHolm has posted some guidelines about the materials that can be used.
But no guidance on procedure or the final look of the “mock” poultry.
No direction on the use of animatronics, either.
This contest will probably draw a lot of entries. In the push to win, some might want to include a sound track. Get real chicken sounds when you pet it, for example. Will organizers allow this?
Again, no direction from them.
We will just have to wait and see… could be a real cluster feather of fake birds this year.
Could be the highlight of the Fair!
