27-year-old Scarborough Male Pronounced Deceased at the Scene
Trent Hills – Sun., July 23, 2023 – The Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a drowning incident in the Trent River / Ranney Falls area in Campbellford.
On Saturday, July 22, at 5:22 p.m., the Northumberland OPP received information regarding a person who appeared to be in distress after jumping into the water. The person then went under the water and did not resurface.
A search of the waterway was conducted by Northumberland EMS and the Trent Hills Fire Department. As a result of their search, a 27-year-old male from Scarborough was located and subsequently pronounced deceased.
“All three stations, Campbellford, Hasting and Warkworth were involved with the rescue.,” Fire Chief Shawn Jamieson told Trent Hills Now. “A drone from A&H was called to assist. Northumberland OPP, Paramedics and Trent Hills Fire all worked together during this call,” he added.
The Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario was on scene to assist with the investigation.
Editor’s Note:The sounds of the fire department’s sirens could be heard in town as they headed out from the EMS base in Campbellford. Northumberland County Paramedics were at the scene too. There are danger signs posted indicating no trespassing just because the area is not safe for swimming due to the Ontario Power Generation dam on the Trent River in that area.
