Welcome to summer!
Article by Bill Hornbostel
“Welcome to Summer” is Cobourg’s message this coming weekend, celebrating the warmer weather and end of COVID-19 restrictions with a two-day street festival. Second Street will be closed off for the event, which will run June 10-11, from 9am to 5pm.
The family-friendly event will have lots of different activities. Donna Todd will hold yoga sessions (Friday 2-3, Saturday 11-12) and Thelma Dillon will lead Zumba (Friday 3-4, Saturday 12-1), and there will also be face painting, rock painting, and balloon twisting for the kids. Let’s Talk Books will hold a story time, and the Art Gallery of Northumberland is hosting a community art project.
Local merchants will be there, selling everything from handmade blankets to woodworking to gemstones to collapsible dollhouses. A couple of local authors will be there
You’ll have a chance to hear some live music; TimeOut Jazz and Pop will being playing on Friday (11am-2pm), and Carl Cotton will be performing on Saturday (1-4).
The painted paddle boards of “Paddle to the ‘C’” will also be on display around the downtown core. The paddles will then be auctioned off at the end of July, and the proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross for humanitarian relief in Ukraine.
“Welcome to Summer” is being hosted by Cobourg’s Downtown Business Improvement Area. For more information about the DBIA, you may visit their Web site, downtowncobourg.ca, or follow them on Facebook (@downtowncobourg) and Instagram (@downtowncobourg).
