COVID-19 is already circulating in hospital wards like Northumberland Hills Hospital and in area long-term care/nursing homes and seniors’ residences.
Ontario’s Medical Officer of Health is recommending a dose of XBB vaccine for anyone six months or older who have been previously vaccinated against COVID-19. And Health Canada has approved the use of Pfizer-BioNTech Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine and Moderna Spikevax Bivalent COVID-19 vaccine as a booster dose.
Effective Oct. 30, anyone over six months can book but before that those in the identified “high risk” group can do so if they are 65 or over, are immune compromised, etc. This group is more vulnerable to hospitalization, severe disease or death from COVID-19.
This reporter has booked hers for mid November in Port Hope and there are spots still available there and throughout the local health unit’s jurisdiction.
“Individuals 6 months and older who are moderately to severely immunocompromised are recommended to receive at least one dose of the XXB vaccine formulation this fall,” the Health Ministry vaccine guidance literature also states.
Your last does must have been given no more recently than “six months…or a known SARS-CoV-2 infection, whichever is later.”
“For up to date information on vaccine efficacy and effectiveness, please consult the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) statements and publications on the Government of Canada webpage,” the Ministry of Health also advises.
