Team Kate top team fundraiser
The Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre Foundation is delighted to announce that the Hike, Bike, and Bark for Hospice event, held on Sunday, October 1st, 2023, raised an incredible $36,000.
These funds will play a pivotal role in supporting essential hospice services, ensuring that individuals in the community, whether at home or residing at Ed’s House, receive unparalleled care at no cost to the client.
Trish Baird, CEO of Community Care Northumberland (CCN), said, “The funds collected through Hike, Bike, and Bark play a vital role in supporting our hospice care services, which are designed to be inclusive for everyone. The financial assistance is absolutely essential, and we want to extend our deepest appreciation to our sponsors, donors, participants, staff, volunteers and the dedicated members of our Special Events Committee for their unwavering commitment in ensuring the remarkable success of this event.”
This year, Hike, Bike, and Bark for Hospice, led by Trail Blazer Level sponsor’s Lee Caswell & Tina Hubicki of Bosley Real Estate, was condensed into a one-day event, uniting the community to celebrate, remember, and raise funds for the Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre Foundation.
The Ed’s House Foundation’s primary mission is to generate funds to sustain the operations of Community Care Northumberland’s hospice service programs within our community. These programs include the Palliative Care Community Team and Volunteer Hospice Visiting program, running in conjunction with the 24/7 end-of-life care provided at Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre, all of which are offered at no cost to the clients.
This year’s Hike, Bike, and Bark for Hospice was all about adaptability and enjoyment. People were able to sign up as an individual, a family, or part of a team. You could select your preferred activity – whether it was hiking, biking, or walking your cherished four-legged friend along 1km and 5km routes. After the success of our previous hybrid events, we were excited to return to the picturesque Victoria Park in Cobourg.
Team Kate received recognition as the top team fundraiser, while Jennifer Darrell and Selena Forsyth once again stood out as the top individual fundraisers. Notably, Debbie Taylor, a nurse at Ed’s House who also experienced the care provided for her mother in July, shared her powerful and heartfelt story during the event.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our generous sponsors, led by “Trail Blazer’s Level” Lee Caswell & Tina Hubicki of Bosley Real Estate. Special thank you to “North Star Level”, Selena Forsyth and Beth Brook of Flourish at Home, “Backpacker Level” Stadtke Plumbing and Heating and Thomas Buick GMC, “Pathfinder Level” Cameco, David’s No Frills, Paulmac’s Pet Store Cobourg and The El, as well as “Explorer Level” Justin’s Pet Store and All Creatures Great and Small, and a special thank you for the delightful cookies from Roda’s Kitchen, apples from Moore Orchards, and the Boxed Brunch prepared by Donna Rusaw and her team at Black Dress Catering, generously donated by Selena Forsyth.
