Third Structure Fire in Aldverville First Nation
Arson Charges Laid in historic fire
Roseneath – Tues., Sept. 19 2023 –– One person has been charged with arson in relation to two structure fires that occurred in Roseneath and a third structure fire in Alderville First Nation.
On April 14, 2023, at 5:15 a.m., emergency services responded to two structure fires in Roseneath in the area of County Road 45 and 3rd Line Road in Roseneath. The structure fires were in close vicinity to each other, and the cause of the fire was believed to be suspicious. No one was in the structures at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
Previously on June 16, 2019, a structure fire was reported on Megyaak Drive in Alderville First Nation.
No one was in the structure at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported. This fire was also deemed to be suspicious.
On September 14, 2023, the Northumberland Crime Unit made an arrest in relation to all three structure fires.
As a result, Jeffrey NILES (age 32) of Alderville First Nation, was arrested and charged with:
· Arson – Damage to Property – three counts
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on October 17, 2023.
