Outdoor Track Set Up for Walking Challenge
Goal to Walk 12,750 Steps

Campbellford – Mon., June 16, 2023 – Island Park has wrapped up a month long fundraiser and awareness for the local Alzheimer Society. Residents were challenged to walk an outdoor track that was prepared by the Resident Engagement Manager Krista Hazlewood.
“In addition to this we held a pop up flower shop in which all the proceeds went to the cause,” she said.
There was also a rummage sale to help generate more funds towards this worthwhile cause.
“I choose this method (of walking a track) to show our support for Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia instead of hosting an event on a single day,” Hazlewood told Trent Hills Now.
“We made sure that we put the emphasis on doing it daily and taking the time to recognize, acknowledge and remember those in our region that are living with dementia,” she explained.
“We have received lots of feedback from family and guests as they see the track on their way in the front door,” she added, noting, “Currently there are 12,750 people living with dementia within our local region.”
The challenge was to take 12,750 steps or more before the end of the month. An outdoor walking track was set up just for the event. Signs were set up as well so participants could navigate the track.
If anyone completed the track once per day then it was expected they would hit approximately 13,500 steps by the end of the month.
