Our History
Doug’s Small Engines started as a sideline hobby. Doug worked part time as a small engine mechanic throughout high school and College. Doug graduated college as an Electro Mechanical Engineering Technologist and obtained full time work in the maintenance department of a plastics company. Doug thought that he was finished working on outdoor power equipment with his new job but previous customers kept showing up at his door with their sick equipment. Doug attempted to turn the work away but it kept coming. After building a 6000 square foot building in Castleton in the fall of 2000 Doug began to accept some equipment for repair. He thought that it would be a nice hobby and would keep him up to date with new technology. The volume of equipment being left at the door grew to the point where Doug had to make the decision to either give up or begin keeping inventory of replacement parts. Doug’s Small Engines soon became a certified repair centre for Briggs and Stratton, Tecumseh, MTD, Kohler and parts dealer for Banta Saw. After that the new product lines just kept coming.In February of 2003, our first full time employee arrived. The business had grown to the point that Doug could not handle it by himself. Today we employ two full time mechanics, one full time parts sales and service person, one full time accounting and administration person, and one part time delivery truck driver. We have grown from a simple lawn and garden repair shop to a full line outdoor power equipment sales and service center.
