Canadian Spoken Word Poet Performing in Port Hope

 Internationally renowned Shane Koyczan

“Dazzling,” “haunting and beautiful,” “a Category Five creative hurricane!” are how reviewers describe internationally acclaimed spoken word poet Shane Koyczan.

Koyczan’s Port Hope stop in his 2022 tour schedule is a coup for our area, says Green Wood Coalition Executive Director David Sheffield. “It’s a rare opportunity that’s going to be a rollercoaster ride!” The event takes place July 21 at Port Hope United Church.

Koyczan’s poetry touches on every facet of the human experience. He collaborated with TED Education to create an anti-bullying classroom tool that has been hailed by teachers, academic and mental health experts. Performing to sold-out audiences around the world, from Olympic opening ceremonies to theaters and music and literary festivals, he will be joined by his band, The Short Story Long.

“With his rhythmic verse in high gear, he navigates his audience through social and political territory with a furious honesty and a tender humanity that has brought audiences to their feet,” according to one reviewer.
