First time for formal flag raising event
On Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. the Town of Cobourg and the Cobourg Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Advisory Committee will host a flag raising ceremony to mark the beginning of Pride Month at Victoria Hall.
In June, communities across the country celebrate Pride Month as a way of recognizing the influence 2SLGBTQ+ people have had around the world as well as an opportunity raise awareness and continue to advocate for equity and representation for all.
The Town of Cobourg EDI Committee works with Cobourg Municipal Council to recommend policies and programs to create an atmosphere conducive to harmonious community relations. The Committee acts as a visible lead agent to assist marginalized, underrepresented, and underserved groups through the development of programs designed to improve equity, diversity and inclusion in the Town of Cobourg. Historically the Town of Cobourg has flown the Pride Flag at Victoria Hall as a symbol of support. With the formation of the EDI Committee in 2021, this will be the first time the Town of Cobourg has hosted a formal flag raising ceremony.
“On June 1, 2022 the Town of Cobourg joins communities across Northumberland County in celebration of Pride Month,” says the Accessibility and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Coordinator, Yasmyn Belle. “This will be the first time the Town of Cobourg has hosted a formal Pride flag raising ceremony at Victoria Hall, which is an important step forward in marking our allyship and continued commitment to becoming a more inclusive community.”
Community Pride Events:
• On Wednesday, June 1st at 12:00 p.m. the Cobourg Police Service will be joined by PFLAG Cobourg/Port Hope for the raising the Pride flag at the Police Station, 107 King Street West followed by a community barbeque until 2:00 p.m. Donations will be accepted to support PFLAG Cobourg/Port Hope.

Second Street Road Closure: Second Street will be closed until 12:00 p.m. to ensure public safety for the flag raising event.
Ukraine Flag: Please note, the Ukraine Flag will be temporarily removed from the Town of Cobourg flagpole at King Street and Second Street. Following Pride Month, the Town of Cobourg will once again fly the Ukraine Flag as symbol of solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
