Affordable Housing Committee Hosts All Candidates Meeting

Salvation Army Community Church — 8:30 am — May 26

The Northumberland Affordable Housing Committee (NAHC) is hosting an All Candidates Meeting Thursday May 26th at 8:30 am at the Salvation Army Community Church.

The issue of housing affordability is important to the NAHC.

According to Meaghan Macdonald, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Northumberland, “Access to safe, stable and affordable housing is becoming more and more challenging for members of our community. Investments to increase the supply of affordable housing are necessary to address the housing crisis in Ontario, driving positive social and economic outcomes as we emerge from the pandemic.”

“It is for this reason that, as members of the Northumberland Affordable Housing Committee, we think it is so important to ensure that an all candidates meeting focused on affordable housing solutions is part of the upcoming provincial election campaign. We encourage everyone in Northumberland County to register to vote and to take advantage of all opportunities to be informed about each candidates’ solutions to address the housing crisis in our community.”

Each level of government plays an important role in the development of all housing types. The Federal Government’s National Housing Strategy offers several programs and initiatives to make rental and homeownership more affordable.
